"Community Spirit is a relief style sculpture designed for the north and west walls of the Whittier Community Center. The theme is one of vitality, rhythm, perpetual motion and growth. The shapes are based on different geometries found in nature. There are also references to waves of light, water or air, and to human pursuits like music, dance and athletics. Inspiration for the piece was also found in the work of poet John Greenleaf Whittier, the universal content of which is buoyant with hope and saturated with light and wonderment.
